The Neuroscience of Manifesting

↓

♟️ MY TURN:

I joke that I manifested my (now) husband.

Wow - that’s still really weird to say the H-word out loud.

After years of dating what felt like a string of people who had toxic behaviors (I swore I was a magnet for them!) I went on a trip to Italy with a group of women.

On that trip I journaled and did a ceremony where I was going to shift my mindset.

I journaled:

journaled:
I deserve a person who makes me feel like life is better with them in it.

I deserve a person who is capable of love that doesn’t feel conditional.

Just a few weeks later Dan and I started dating.

Our brain = a filter

I want to talk about the neuroscience of manifesting.

When I did hypnotherapy session with a coach last year she explained something to me….

Recent research from Caltech suggests our conscious thought operates around 10 bits per second.

For context:

Our senses (eyes, ears, etc.) gather data at roughly 1,000,000,000 (1 billion) bits per second, but only a tiny fraction reaches our conscious awareness for processing.

If we use our limited processing power on the negative things, our brain will start to look for the negative things.

BUT…

If we use our processing power for the positive, abundant things in life….our brain will start to look (and find!) positive things.

I come from a long line of complainers.

It could be the most beautiful day outside and they could win the award for finding something to complain about.

And the funny thing about it is…..more and more bad stuff does happen to them.

Their food gets messed up at a restaurant.

Luggage lost at the hotel.

But I believe we are more in control of this than we realize.

Some call it manifesting….I call it brain posturing.

I posture my brain to look for things that can go right.

If you’ve been feeling unlucky lately…..let’s fix your posture.

♟️ YOUR TURN:

Let’s do an exercise (from my hypnotherapy session):

I want you to close your eyes and think of a scenario you are anxious about in the future. Something like a big achievement you want to happen.

For me I want to picture writing book #2.

Now as you picture it, I want you to think of all the things that could go wrong and then as you picture them, turn the image in your brain into black and white. Then make it smaller. Then make it blurry. Then smaller again. Then even smaller and start to crumple up the image and then you toss it into the void of your mind.

The words don’t flow. I sit at my desk not finding connections between my topics and unable to build cohesive thought and emotionally powerful storytelling.

Now picture everything going right. You nailing it. The feeling of pride and accomplishment. Everyone around you smiling and happy for you. Now make that image bigger in your brain. Even bigger. Brighter. More vivid.

I sit down at my desk. Thoughts pouring out of me. My editor thrilled with the chapters as I turn them in. A powerful and impactful book starts unfolding, one sentence at a time.

This is what we need to do with negative thoughts.

We have to stop them in their tracks otherwise our brain will continue to filter for those bits to confirm them for us.

We receive what we look for.

I truly believe this.

Thank you for reading!

I appreciate you so so much!

XO
Amanda
