♟️ MY TURN:
Last week I traveled to Seattle to speak at Starbucks HQ to talk with the Chief Brand Officer and their employees about Toxic Grit and how to create space for loving what you do AND loving how you live. It was a pinch me moment.
And now I’m officially wrapping leg 1 of my book tour.
For 8 weeks I traveled to different cities, met thousands of you, and got to realize a dream I’ve had for over a decade:
becoming a bestselling author author.
And now I'm back into prioritizing mom mode over CEO mode.
But I also realized something else……
chasing your dreams is a half and half equation.
Part of the fun is in the dreaming about a thing
And the other part is going after it.
No where in the equation does it talk about catching them (the dreams).
And I think it’s intentional.
The last year has been so much excitement and now that I’ve accomplished all I set out to do, it can be easy to feel a void, emptiness or sad period.
And I definitely have struggled with that this past week.
Let's talk about...
Post Achievement Depression
As a former wedding planner and someone who is about to get married in 2 months.....there is something called the wedding blues. We would prepare our brides to know that you can become depressed after the wedding.
This also happens when you finally achieve the thing you've been waiting for.
Did you ever feel blue after opening Christmas presents as a kid?
Same thing.
Before and during a big event — whether it’s a wedding, book launch, product launch, or marathon...... your brain is flooded with dopamine and adrenaline.
You’re in a heightened state of focus, anticipation, and purpose.
When the event ends, those neurochemicals suddenly drop. That’s when you feel the emotional crash......tired, empty, or even sad.
The Psychology of It
Big milestones give us:
- Structure: A clear goal and daily direction.
- Meaning: A sense of purpose and anticipation.
- Community: People rallying around you.
When it’s over, your brain loses all three at once....leading to a feeling of aimlessness or loss. It’s not that something’s wrong with you; it’s that your brain and body are recalibrating after being “on” for so long.
Isn’t that crazy?
Ambition is a lot like a rainbow.
You may chase it, hoping for a pot of gold at the end, but the real fun is in the seeing it, chasing it and enjoying it while it’s in front of you and then telling all the stories about it afterward.
Most of life is like this, right?
We put our goals on these massive pedestals.
We push.
We chase.
We dream about what it will be like.
But it’s so important to realize that we are living the fun part right now: chasing them.
So I guess my point is…..
- Enjoy the dream
- Enjoy the chase
Stop waiting to enjoy the magical thing at the end of the rainbow that may or may not be there.
Building a business to try and become a millionaire?
Be proud of the business itself.
Be proud of the ways you are growing and stretching.
Starting a newsletter to try and get to 10,000 subscribers?
Be proud of showing up every week.
Be proud of the growth in your writing.
Life is more than the goals themselves.

♟️ YOUR TURN:
If you are struggling to enjoy the chase, ask yourself the following questions:
- Who is on my journey now that wouldn’t have been before?

- If I could go back and meet myself 5 years ago, what would they be proud of or impressed by?

- What is one way you are growing and changing right now on your way to the goal you've set?
